Aaron Rapoport

Over a career spanning 25 years, Los Angeles-based photographer Aaron Rapaport has photographed a tremendous range of headliners in rock and roll, country and R&B. The list includes Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, U2, Roy Orbison, Faith Hill, George Harrison, David Bowie, Neil Young and many others.

Aaron is a second generation Californian, “the son of a trumpet playing businessman and the prettiest mom in the class.” At age 9, while rolling south to his new home in LA he was just learning to use his new Yashica camera, a gift from an uncle. “For me that was really the beginning,” Aaron says. “I drank in the diversity and glamour of Hollywood and discovered a love of photography. A thunderstorm of inspiration followed.”

Having discovored greats such Penn, Avedon, Lartigue and Helmut Newton, he started to shoot and develop his own work. He attended Art Center College in Pasadena “surrounded and terrified by some brilliant people.” After apprenticing with noted Hollywood photographer David Alexander, Aaron set out on his own and never looked back.

In the 70s and 80s Aaron was busy shooting record business parties and publicity sessions, moving onto album covers, movie ads, editorial, advertising, and TV commercials. “Now,” he says, “here I am 25 years later, an amazing body of work, weaving the past and the future into the next precious moment, and the most sacred of questions, ‘How do I make this an image I’ll love?’”
