The photography career of Andrew Kent began in 1968 with his enrollment in photography classes at Santa Monica College. After just two beginners classes he found himself working as a photographer for the Los Angeles Free Press.
Music photography became his area of interest and his passion, along with political news and cultural events.
Andrew has been staff photographer for Capitol Records, Atlantic Records and A&M Records. He was also staff photographer for Creem, Circus, and Rock magazines.
His main focus as a music photographer has been on live performances and tours. Andrew has photographed many major acts and his pictures have been distributed around the world. He has been published in many major magazines and newspapers including Rolling Stone, Playboy, Vanity Fair, Time, Newsweek, Uncut, Q and Mojo.
Andrew has covered the live music scene extensively, from legendary concerts and opening nights at the Troubadour to Whiskey A Go Go in Los Angeles and The Bitter End in New York’s West Village.
Highlights of Andrew’s career were his shoots with David Bowie. He went on a six-month tour with the performer in 1976 and another in 1978. Iggy Pop is another favorite artist with whom he has toured.
Andrew has shot iconic album covers and considers Kiss’s “Alive II” and Iggy’s “Lust For Life” as two of his favorites. He has contributed to dozens of books by authors including David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Jim Morrison and Elton John.
In 1978 Andrew gave up touring and moved to Sun Valley, Idaho, for a more leisurely life of skiing, fly fishing and motorcycles.
