Nowhere Man

“Bring along your camera. You might get some nice snaps.”

With those words, spoken in the summer of 1968, a fellow photographer invited Tom Murray to a publicity shoot for an unnamed band. As it turned out, the band was The Beatles.

The impromptu shoot that followed took Tom and the band on a mad dash around London. From two rolls of film Tom kept 23 negatives, which are considered the most important color photographs of the group from that period of their career.

The “Nowhere Man” in this shot was never aware that he was in captured in the frame with the world’s most famous band. “He slept through the whole shoot,” says Tom.
